Because of the multiple opportunities we can provide hunters, many of our guests take advantage of combining adventures to create a multi-species hunt. This provides an efficient way to use the time and cost of travel to experience different hunts on the same expedition. Here are the most popular examples.

Musk Ox/Caribou Combo

Since there are Caribou in the same area as the Musk Ox on our fall hunts, this is a simple way to add on a second species to your fall Musk Ox hunting adventure!  Musk Ox will be the primary target, with Caribou available as an add on species. The option of adding on Caribou must be determined at time of booking as limited tags are available. Once your Musk Ox is down, Caribou will become the main focus.

New Combo Hunt for 2024

These exciting Muskox /Caribou hunts start from the community of Baker Lake, Nunavut which is roughly 1600 kilometers north of Winnipeg Manitoba. Major airlines like Delta, United, Air Canada and WestJet fly into Winnipeg daily making this starting location very easy to get to. Baker Lake is accessible via scheduled airline from Winnipeg and this cost is also included in your package. Baker Lake is where civilization ends and your adventure starts.

We hunt where the animals are, moving constantly until all our hunters are successful in the quest to harvest these amazing creatures. Although the hunt starts in Baker Lake, we will travel if necessary up to 80-100 miles on the water in search of the game you seek. Travel is done by big, sturdy boats that also have the ability to overnight on or use them as a base of operations with full cooking facilities including having a nice warm shower. We will have smaller boats along to access the shore and quads available to pursue game further inland or assist in the carry out of harvested game. Every aspect of this hunt is completely detailed and nothing left to chance.

Late summer and early fall will find these magnificent animals near the lake, along the rivers and throughout the Baker Lake and Chesterfield Inlet area’s as they herd up for the annual rut. Caribou can also be found in high numbers along these corridors as well.

The animals in this area are of the Barren Ground sub species of Musk Ox.  These animals are larger than their island cousins by about 10-15% in body and horn size. On average, well over 80% of Muskox taken by hunters with Henik Lake Adventures will meet or exceed the Boone & Crockett minimum requirements. We also hold the SCI #1 World Record Muskox that was taken on one of our fall hunts. The Caribou we hunt are of the Central Barren Ground specie, and this area has 2 herds intermingling herds that travel many miles of land.

Our area of use is virtually un-hunted. This has led our hunters to enjoy a 100% success for the past 10 years.  On average, well over 80% of the animals taken by hunters with Henik Lake Adventures will meet or exceed the Boone & Crockett minimum score.

These hunts are guided by Master Guide Ryan St John, owner of Henik Lake Adventures. His son Jordan and 2 other hand-picked experienced guides will provide guiding services for 4 hunters per group with Ryan supervising every aspect of the hunt. There is absolutely no one in the western Arctic that has more knowledge of the land and animal behavior than Ryan. You are with the best. Each hunter will have an assigned guide for the duration of the hunt.

After your bull(s) are down, your guide will field prep your meat and trophy. Animals will be skinned as per hunter’s request (shoulder mount, full size, european etc.), while the meat will be deboned. The hunter is welcome to take as much meat home with them, but in most cases because of plane restrictions regarding freight, we suggest a 50 lb limit of backstraps, tenderloins and choice cuts which can be brought back on the plane with you to Winnipeg as access baggage. Any meat left behind by the hunters will be donated to the community freezer. This kind gesture does not go unnoticed, and is very much appreciated by the Elders and the less fortunate in the Baker Lake area.
